Homeless Child at Work
In Rio de Janeiro, more than 7 million children caught in a cycle of poverty, drugs and violence, live and work on the streets. By building social networks which provide care, support and access to education, we work to strengthen the capacity of local communities and families through a network of locally based partnerships,and provide shelter and a family environment to those children who have no place to go.
Homeless Child is currently designing a state-of-the-art project, the Mulryan Family Foundation Centre which will include a village of homes for children. We are also running three major projects to give local communities the tools they need to aid these children and break the cycle. Projeto Alcançando Vidas gives 60 children access to education and critical social support. Criança do Brasil runs two neighbourhood crèches to provide daycare to more than 100 children alongside an area nutrition programme. Through the Creche Comunitaria , we support a further 45 toddlers and their families in a community which suffers from constant violence from warring drug factions.
We have also built Casa Irlanda, a children’s home for twenty at-risk children aged 6-12 years old; made donations to Casa Charlotte, a home for pregnant teenagers and built the third floor for Fight for Peace.
