Tourism is a vibrant and critical part of Brazil’s economic growth - more than 5 million tourists spend nearly $6 billion USD each year on their Brazilian holidays. Most tourists never encounter the poverty, violence, drugs and exploitation of Rio’s slums, or see the conditions more than 35 million impoverished children and families live in.
If every tourist donated just 1% of their Brazilian holiday expenditure to improving conditions for Brazil’s most vulnerable children, we could provide food, education, medical care and safety to all of Rio’s street kids.
By pledging to donate 1% of your Brazilian travel costs to Homeless Child - that’s just €10 for every €1,000 or $10 for every $1,000 you spend - you can help us meet this goal.

I pledge 1% because…every child is so very precious and we fail to realise this so often.
I pledge 1% because… I completely believe in this charity and think this is a simple but effective idea that everyone should do!
I pledge 1% because I believe that childred, no matter where they are located have a right to shelter and opportunities. I believe this because I was a child once too.
I pledge 1% because… 1% a couple of drinks I probably don’t need anyway, or it’s the money I’d spend in a second without noticing it’s even gone, or it’s about two minutes’ worth of sitting on a plane on the way to have the time of my life - but it’s also the help a kid needs to stay safe for the night, or to get some help towards a future with a shot at some happiness in it. 1% is nothing to me. It might be 100% to one of these kids.
I pledge 1% because as I type this my three year old son is asleep beside me, No child should have to sleep rough in this day.
I pledge 1% because childhood poverty is absolutely unacceptable anywhere in the world in 2009
